(You never wonder why, we hurt yet hardly cry, we’re so desensitized) They say that love lives in the ghetto, how could love be in the ghetto When love would never leave us alone, leave us alone x2 (yet they leave us alone) They say that love lives in the ghetto, how could love be in the ghetto When love would never leave us alone, they say love will prevail…love never fails....Yet we’re living in hell VERSE 1 Seems like everyday I try, I cry…I’m on my knees It feels like only pain and misery are company Sometimes I sit and start to wonder, why they think of us as less than human Since we are the main consumers, why are we not full That ghettos not black , its not white…. its not wrong, its not right You can find them both (here or there) If you look closely you'll find them both (here or there) They say pain is love, I’m running out of love (here or there) Thats why they say…. They say that love lives in the ghetto, how could love be in the ghetto When love would never leave us alone, leave us alone x2 (yet they leave us alone) They say that love lives in the ghetto, how could love be in the ghetto When love would never leave us alone, they say love will prevail…love never fails....Yet we’re living in hell (Preach) Sometimes I close my eyes, its then that I realize The more things change, the more they stay the same Be careful who you call your friends, they’ll lead you right to your end Cause a sail don't care, it’ll flow with any wind… Sometimes I sit and start to reason, our ancestors were both kings and queens.. And if we are obsessed with leaving, why are we still here That ghettos got life its got death, its got crack its got meth And you know that its everywhere… you're not safe in your suburb… Its Everywhere… and it’s not fair…. how dare they say! That theres love in the ghetto, How would you know…you're not in this ghetto Where’s this love, this so called love…. come find me love (please) Wheres the love in the ghetto, who's got love for the ghetto If theres love, if theres love….come find me love

about

After more than a decade of writing, arranging and performing for other artist, Nathaniel Star has finished his long-awaited debut solo album, Collide-A-Scope, set for digital release December 23, 2016 through all major outlets. Collide-A-Scope is a breath of fresh air in the world of music. Drawing from Roots Soul, Jazz, R&B, Funk and Hip-Hop, Collide-A-Scope weaves the essence of urban music into a tapestry of lush melodic tunes that are as thought provoking as they are musical. Produced almost entirely by gospel keyboardist and Hip-Hop producer Vintage Soul, the album blends the sound elements of contemporary urban music with the deep harmonies and vocals of traditional soul.
Nathaniel Star “wanted to make an album for people who don’t understand urban life so they can take a look into it and for people who live it can feel a part of it.” After one listen you will understand this statement completely. Lyrically, he pens poetic commentary on social justice, relationships (good and bad), growth, pain and love...always love. The love is there from the dusty Rhodes intro to the atmospheric horns of the album conclusion. One thing is for certain: love for music radiates from this project.
The message presented is poignant. “I want this album to show the many different facets of black life. I want people to see us in our totality. Black people are multi-faceted. I want people to remember that. I want to help re-humanize us in the eyes of people who have dehumanized us. I want to show our substance the people.” The genius lies in Nathaniel Star’s ability to touch on sensitive issues without the issues overshadowing the musicality of the album. He is able to be provocative without making the listener uncomfortable. He is able to voice pain without it being painful. He is able to embody joy without being cliche.
Collide-A-Scope is a very real album by design. Star says, “As an artist you want to be able to appeal to everyone. But sometimes the ugly truth needs to be said, and that doesn’t appeal to a lot of people. The world isn’t 100 percent happy right now. I couldn’t make a 100 percent happy album and be true to what is going on in the world right now.”
In order to see Collide-A-Scope to fruition, Nathaniel Star employs a wide variety of musical collaborators for the project. John D’earth (trumpet), Dane Alderson (bass), Damon Stewart (guitar), Will Coles (drums), Randy Johnson (guitar), James Copeland (sax), and Kaimbr (rap vox) all feature on the album, adding a live music element to the driving beats, dirty samples and lush keys.
